Managing privacy risks in the new reality

Last year, major amendments were made to the Code of Administrative Offenses and Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, establishing new types of liability for violations in personal data processing for both companies and individuals.

These changes present substantial risks in the form of turnover-based fines and criminal liability on the part of management, which could critically impact business.

Moreover, starting from July 1, 2025, changes in the requirement to localize the personal data of Russian citizens will come into effect, which may increase the financial and reputational risks for data controllers transferring personal data abroad.
