On February 9 ALRUD Law Firm hosted a workshop “Life after the Localization Law: findings of inspections conducted by Roskomnadzor in 2016, the regulator’s position”. Among the speakers were experts of ALRUD Data Protection Practice: Maria Ostashenko, Partner and Head of Practice, Anastasia Petrova, Associate, and Marina Yufa, Attorney, and guest speaker, Olga Sadovnikova, Leading Expert on Data Security in AMT Group.

The workshop was visited by more than 40 representatives of the leading Russian and foreign companies, including companies executives, heads of HR, Compliance and IT Departments.

During the workshop ALRUD experts shared with guests practical recommendations and peculiarities of enforcement of the data protection legislation subsequent to the new requirements entering into force with due regard to Roskomnadzor’s approach. Besides, during the workshop the participants discussed the judicial practice trends related to personal data protection (LinkedIn case, Google case), provisions of the so-called “Yarovaya Law” and a number of significant legislative initiatives that may be developed in 2017. Among the issues covered during the workshop were:

  • Personal data of the employees: how to ensure compliance with the numerous legal requirements in practice.
  • Non-automated data processing: what should the company put n increased focus on if the data are processed using not only electronic devices but also manually (in hard copies).
  • Current Roskomnadzor’s approaches to data processing via web-sites and through the use of different web-services (for instance, mobile applications, analytical services, etc.).
  • Global IT-infrastructures shared by a lot of affiliated persons: how to ensure compliance with the legislative requirements.
