Compensation for fatal accidents at work - expansion of the recipient list

Compensation for fatal accidents at work - expansion of the recipient list

12 December 2019

As of December 2019, the list of persons entitled to monetary compensation, in the event of the death of an employee in an industrial accident has been extended.

Respective amendments were introduced into the Federal Law “On compulsory social insurance against accidents at work and occupational diseases” and covered both those who are entitled to receive a lump-sum insurance payment and persons who receive monthly insurance payments.

The parents of the deceased employee are now listed among the recipients of a lump-sum insurance payment. Previously, they could receive compensation only under certain conditions (e.g. if they did not work and took care of those family members, who were dependents of the deceased employee).

The amount of the lump-sum insurance payment is 1 million rubles, and if the deceased employee had a wife, children, and parents, then this amount should be proportionally divided between them.
