23 March 2020

On March 19th 2020, The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (“Ministry”) announced that foreign citizens, present in the territory of Russia, may apply for an extension of their migration term.

Foreigners shall submit an application to the nearest territorial department of the Ministry.

Upon the application:

  • visas of foreign citizens will be extended (even if their terms have expired);
  • the term of temporary stay will be extended for foreign citizens, with a visa-free regime of entry (even if the term has expired at the time of the application);
  • residence permits and temporary residence permits will be extended in case of expiration.

The Ministry will also issue permits to engage foreign employees and work permits for foreign citizens present in the territory of Russia.

In addition, foreign citizens may apply for new patents, without leaving Russia. Foreigners, who missed the deadline for prolongation of the patent, will not incur administrative liability.
