ALRUD Law Firm will take part in the first corporate world chess championship organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The tournament will take place on February 19-21, 2021. The games will be played online, with Chess.com designated as the hosting platform, and will be broadcast live across multiple outlets including Chess.com, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and international streaming platforms in multiple languages, including Russian.
The competition turnout has exceeded all expectations. With 288 teams from 78 different countries registered, the event will bring together 1,467 players. 36 grandmasters will play in the tournament, including the World Champion Magnus Carlsen.
In each team, only one player may be “invited” (not having direct relations with the company), and only one player can have standard rating higher than 2500 in the FIDE rating list.
ALRUD Law Firm team is represented by German Zakharov, Partner, Head of the Antitrust Practice – Team Captain; Timur Akhundov, Senior Associate (Corporate, Banking and Finance, Business Regulation); Kamilla Goncharova, Knowledge Management Director; Boris Pribylov, Senior Attorney (Corporate, Business Regulation). Our invited player is Vladimir Malakhov, a Russian chess grandmaster, a member of the Russian team that won gold at the 2009 World Team Chess Championship, and the winner of the 2009 European Rapid Chess Championship.
Most of the top companies in the world have joined the competition. ALRUD is the only Russian law firm at the tournament. Russia is also represented by the teams of Skolkovo, Rambler, Yandex, Kaspersky, VK, MTS, Pulkovo, Aeroflot and others – in total 28 teams. For a full list of teams and players, please click here.
There is no entry fee for this competition. However, FIDE is organizing a fund-raiser in cooperation with the platform Softgiving, and participating teams and companies and their supporters are encouraged to donate towards one of three social projects currently being developed by FIDE: Chess in Education programs for underprivileged children, Chess for people with Disabilities, and the FIDE veterans support program.
If you also want to contribute, you can do it through this link. The period to make donations is open until February 26, 2021.
We are wishing best of luck to our Team, and looking forward to the beginning of this unique event!
