Ilya Khodakov

Ilya Khodakov is an Advocate with the professional experience in the Intellectual Property, Dispute Resolution, Data Protection and Cybersecurity, Crisis Management, Economic sanctions and Compliance Practices at ALRUD Law Firm.

Ilya is engaged in both complex transactions and disputes. He represents clients before arbitration tribunals, the Intellectual Property Court, courts of general jurisdiction, the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia, and Rospatent’s Chamber for Patent Disputes, and also negotiates settlement of complicated conflicts.

Ilya advises on transactions involving intangible assets, including those related to M&A projects: such as the transfer and licensing of exclusive rights, the transfer of technology and know-how, joint development and commercialization of intellectual property, the pledge of exclusive rights, and intra-group IP structuring. He also advises on the application of sanctions and counter-sanctions, legal protection of intellectual property, and assists with the registration of intellectual property rights.

Ilya advises Russian and international companies on regulatory issues related to personal data and digital projects. His expertise encompasses telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT); pharmaceuticals and healthcare (Life Sciences); consumer goods (FMCG); and agriculture.

Ilya practices as a patent attorney having wide specialization and expertise (trademarks, inventions and utility models, industrial designs, computer programs, databases, geographical indications, and appellations of origin).

Ilya graduated from the Law Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and completed postgraduate studies at the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property (RGAIS), successfully defended a Candidate of Sciences dissertation and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Legal Sciences (PhD in Law), as well as a Master's Degree in Law (LL.M.) from the University of London (UK).

Ilya is a member of International Trademark Association (INTA), International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA).

He is a Deputy Chair of ICC Russia Commission on Intellectual Property.
